what we want

our demands

Remove Trump from office

We stand firm in our demand to remove Trump from office, rejecting the corruption and authoritarianism threatening our democracy.

Resist the oligarchy

The people of Virginia refuse to be ruled by oligarchs who prioritize wealth and power over the rights of everyday citizens—we will resist and reclaim our government.

Reverse citizens united

To ensure a future where democracy belongs to the people, we must reverse Citizens United, ending the influence of dark money in politics and restoring the voice of the voters.

Our Origins

On February 5th & 17th, 50501 Virginia raised our voices

The first #50501 protests were a decentralized rapid response to the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies. The idea—50 protests in 50 states on 1 day—was born on r/50501 and spread rapidly on social media.

In just days, grassroots organizers—without any budget, centralized structure, or official backing—pulled off over 80 peaceful protests in all 50 states. Twelve days later, tens of thousands of Americans declared “No Kings Day” and protested once more.

The protests were covered by every major media outlet, showing the world that the American working class will not sit idly by as plutocrats rip apart their democratic institutions and civil liberties while undermining the rule of law.

Unfortunately no we cannot. Our permit only allows for the podium provided by the Capitol and we unfortunately cannot bring our own sound there. For any events outside of the Capitol grounds, there is a louder sound setup.

We live stream speakers on Tiktok each event, if you cannot hear what is being said feel free to tune in there as well.

50501 Virginia stands in solidarity with Palestine and the Palestinian people.

We believe in and fully endorse self-determination for all Palestinians, as well as the ability, established through both International law and the inalienable right of all people, to seek a present and a future that is free from violence, abuse, persecution, and dehumanization.

We denounce the Israeli government’s indiscriminate bombardment, flagrant war crimes, and other illegal and abhorrent acts carried out against the people of Gaza, and we reject in totality any and all attempts by this Administration to illegally remove Palestinians from their rightful homes.

Finally, we cannot ignore the violations taking place on our own shores. Specifically, 50501 Virginia demands that no student or educator should be targeted, disappeared, jailed, or deported for their advocacy on behalf of the Palestinian people or any other constitutionally protected speech.

50501 Virginia serves as part of a larger, grassroots movement to oppose the current regime. Intrinsically linked within that mission is a fundamental belief in and support for all exploited and marginalized communities.

We cannot move forward unless we stand together.

These events involve large numbers of people. It is recommended to practice social distancing (standing at least 6 feet apart) to the best of your ability. In situations where you are unable to distance such as during a march, please wear a mask if you can (ideally N95 or KN95). Although we can’t directly control the choices individuals make, we strongly encourage these practices to keep yourself and others in good health. Masks are also encouraged to protect personal privacy.

50501 Virginia is part of a nationwide nonpartisan, grassroots, intentionally-decentralized movement of millions of Americans to peacefully oppose the current Administration. As such, while we work alongside elected officials and welcome their attendance, involvement, and amplification of our events, we do not endorse specific candidates or allow our logo to be used by candidates to imply an endorsement. The Trump regime’s attacks on our democracy, our Constitution, and our people extend beyond party affiliation, and we stay true to our movement when we invite all voices to join the nationwide chorus denouncing this existential threat to the republic.

We do not officially support political candidates, so they cannot use the 50501 Virginia logo.
